Meet Emilee: Virginia Health At Every Size Dietitian
Hi! I am Emilee, a registered dietitian and the founder of Embrace Nutrition Counseling, a virtual nutrition practice specializing in eating disorder recovery. My approach is personal and holistic, driven by my belief in body neutrality and rejecting diet culture.
I wanted to take some time to share more about myself because knowing the person behind the screen is important <3
Q: What inspired you to become a dietitian, especially one focused on eating disorders?
My path to becoming a dietitian is rooted in my own experiences. I know firsthand what it’s like to struggle with food and the emotional and physical toll that can take. That journey sparked my passion for helping others facing similar challenges.
I was drawn to working in eating disorders because the relationship people have with food and their bodies is so personal and complex. Supporting others through that is something I feel deeply connected to.
Q: What makes your practice, Embrace Nutrition Counseling, unique?
My focus is on building a real connection with my clients. I want to get to know you beyond any struggles with food, because understanding the whole person makes a big difference in the healing process. This relationship is about teamwork, trust, and making sure you feel seen and supported.
I also value our session time to be what you need it to be whether that is a light hearted conversation, filled with humor, a space to cry- whatever you need. I am not just here to talk about your meals.
Q: What is your philosophy around nutrition?
I believe that food should be simple, joyful, and free from guilt or stress. Nutrition doesn't need to be about micromanaging every bite or obsessing over calories, carbs, or portions. The way we eat should be rooted in trusting our bodies to tell us what we need, without constantly worrying about "perfect" diets. Sometimes we just need help getting back to that place.
Q: Can you share a little bit about your life outside of work?
I’m a proud mom to a baby boy and am navigating life as a new parent (postpartum is hard!). I moved to Arlington 8 (ish) years ago with my now husband after graduating from Radford University.
I enjoy trying new restaurants but will always be down to go to my local sushi spot. I love a good thrift find! And I am an avid reader so I am always open to book recommendations! My favorite author is Kristin Hannah.
Q: What is a fun fact about you people may not know?
I had the chance to receive a traditional SakYant tattoo while visiting Cambodia last fall. It was such a cool experience and a way to connect with the culture!
